Green Leaf Smoothie Bowl

Long time without posting… It has been very busy months, but finally the calm arrived! and I can start again posting my favorite recipes, full of nourishment and earth goodies πŸ™‚

As wellness routine I have at least once per week a green smoothie as breakfast, which contains proteins from green plant leaves and spinach. When you work full-time in the corporate world, it is challenging to maintain a clean diet. Why? Lot of times you may be already at 7 am in the office, other times have lunch outside, and many times work full day and skip proper meals.Β And depending on the position and company, you may have to travel during the week. A challenge to have a healthy lifestyle right? For this reason, make sure in your free days you get nutritious food.

I choose spinach because it is an excellent source of proteins, iron, vitamins and minerals,Β while being low in calories. The benefits of this green leaf ranks from diabetes management and cancer prevention, to a healthy hair and skin and bone health. It also has antioxidants properties.

Moringa, on the other hand, has amazing health benefits: hormonal balance, digestion, mood, fights free radicals, protects the cardiovascular system and supports brain health. Based on Mind Body Green:

A study found that leaf extracts had higher antioxidant activity, free-radical-scavenging capacity, and higher inhibition of lipid, protein, and DNA oxidation than flowers and seeds.Β This means it prevents the damage and degradation that free radicals cause in the cells of different organs in the body, keeping them healthy and functioning at their best.

WheatgrassΒ has also great health benefits, and it is used for different purposes and in different fields. You could spend days reading about all the benefits and uses…. I use it because it is an excellent concentrated source of vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin E, iron, calcium, magnesium and amino acids. As I do not eat meat, wheatgrass is my source to get the amino acids I would get from red meat, poultry and seafood. Β Additionally, this superfood protects against inflammation, builds red blood cells and improves circulation (Wheatgrass: Detox tonic or just juice?, NHS).

Now, back to today’s green smoothie bomb πŸ˜‰



For smoothie:

On top:

  • Mango slice
  • 1/2 Kiwi slices
  • 2-3 Walnuts
  • 1 tbsp Goji berries to taste (cut in half)
  • Chia seeds to taste

First of all, gather all the ingredients πŸ˜‰ below a picture of the powders I mentioned before. If you add more than one tbsp from each of them, you will probably need to add more mango and orange, or even a full banana to sweeten the flavor.


Add all the fruits, frozen spinach and a bit of water to the blender. Once you get a smooth mix, add the three powders and blend all together again. Prepare the mango and kiwi slices, and place them once you add the smoothie to the bowl. At last add the walnut pieces and Goji berries. Chia seeds placed on top around the whole bowl.
